Quite the Labor Day Start...

What was supposed to be an ordinary Saturday turned into craziness.

For all of you who aren't familiar with basements, don't have them or don't care because in Oklahoma we never had a basement and of course, we never had a SUMP PUMP.  This is basically the pump in the basement that removes any water and pumps it outside the house to go out to the street so your basement doesn't fill with water when it rains.

It's a wonderful thing and you must have one and it's a terrible thing when it breaks and it rains for 30 hours straight (thank you Hurricane Issac) and you don't realize your sump pump is broken until you have 1/2 an inch of standing water in your basement at 4:30am.  :)

The positives:
1.  We aren't out of town.
2.  I'm not delivering the baby, yet.
3.  Our basement was just for storage and a play area for the kids.
4.  We did not have carpet.
5.  We weren't seriously in love with anything down there...okay maybe a few things.
6.  We aren't living in a place where the Hurricane hit and the rooms we actually live in (family room, kitchen, etc.) are filled with 2 feet of water.  Can you imagine?!

The negatives:
1.  I'm pretty sure 2 complete mattress/box spring combos are ruined.
2.  A box of old yearbooks are wet and wrinkled.
3.  Some awesome rugs may or may not make it.

Anyway...it's been quite the day but I'm thankful that someone was able to come out right away and replace our broken pump and that we are seeing some dry ground now.  Now if only we had the OU and OSU games on channels we could actually watch, our day might be even better!

HAPPY LABOR DAY AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL KICK-OFF!

  1. Ugh! So sorry!!!
Even with our sump pump working, we still had some seepage along our foundation... I hate that feeling of seeing water in your house...
